Curated Bag Of Records

A simple idea: Tell us a little bit about what you're into, we'll send you a curated bunch of records that you A) will love and B) have never heard of. Discovering music is tough, but when you find new stuff that you are into, it is the best. We've been doing this for years and decided to open it up to the public.

How does it work? Give us a couple of keywords whether that be genres, bands you like, a vibe, whatever you want. Josh Cozby, owner of The Government Center in PGH (one of the best record stores there ever was) will take that info and put together a curated stack of records within the price level you've selected. This is not a subscription, though you are welcome to come back and do it again and again (and many have).

What this is not: This is not a subscription service. This is not a great thing to do if you want very specific control of what you get. This is not AI driven. This is a handover of control to trusted pair of hands.

Who is Josh Cozby (aka the record curator)? Owner of The Government Center and exactly what you want in a record store owner. Complete lack of pretense, a true interest and encyclopedic knowledge of music, disinterest in "trophy hunting" and crusty Discogs fiends, and un-precious in his pursuit. In short, he loves music and loves sharing under-appreciated and hard-to-discover music.

How many records do I get within each price tier? This will totally depend. Josh will always try and mix it up and give you bang for your buck. Can't say an exact number, but you'll get value for $$.

Can I return the records for a refund? Afraid not. This is a dice roll, but the dice are basically weighted. You are either into this kind of thing or you aren't. If you don't want to take the risk, we recommend Vinyl Me Please or one of the many other curation or subscription services.

Are the records new or used? This will mostly consist of new pressings, but used is on the table. Josh is very careful about not sending out used records that may not be up to people's standards, but it is possible.

What kind of prompts / keywords should I use? Don't be too specific, just try and help identify some broad territories. For example: "Love international stuff. Fan of Khruangbin. Instrumental. Hip hop like MF Doom". OR "Poppy 80's. Phoebe Bridgers. Post-punk." OR even "Chill vibes, not too heavy on lyrics". Best case is not too narrow but a few things to cling on to.

How long will it take to get my records? It depends, but records will usually ship within 3 - 6 business days. Shipments come via USPS Media Mail.
